In the Politics of Diversity group we study real-world questions on political representation and power, struggles for equality, backlash, oppression and policies. We focus on three dimensions of political inequalities: gender & sexuality, migration & race/ethnicity, and intersectionality.
Research projects on gender & sexuality empirically and theoretically investigate the structural political underrepresentation of some groups, like women and trans people, and the overrepresentation of others (e.g. white men).
Research projects on migration & race/ethnicity study policy making that targets citizens with a migration background, as well as transnationalism and political exclusion of racialized and ethnically minoritized citizens.
Intersectionality is a theory, method and praxis to understand political marginalization and privilege and to counter inequalities based on intersections of – among others – gender, sexuality, race/ethnicity, ability, religion, age, class, and citizenship.
